Laying Eggs

Description

Here's a monogamous pair of dustjacket tail-feeders, which have found a secluded clearing in a field of megagrass in which the female can lay her eggs. The male keeps watch.
Fentil vertebrate reproductive organs are locate on their back, and consist of 3 tubes.
The 'female' is equipped with both a phallus and a womb, the 'male' simply has gonads at the end of a long tube within the body.
They have 3 of each.

The eggs are covered in thick leathery skin and are often buried in the ground. They are equipped with a rudimentary circulatory system and lung to supply the developing embryo with oxygen, often with a 'snorkel' that pokes out of the ground. These hefty cases are eaten by the exoskeletal infant when it hatches.
Some species of cloverhead guard the egg site, some take care of their young when they hatch, and some even look after them after they exit their cocoon and emerge in their adult stage.

Cloverheads have the most varied parental system of any group of Fentil vertebrates. Shankbats stay in their eggs until they are in their adult form and can fly, whereas Pouchbacks have a short exoskeletal stage, but remain in the womb until they metamorphose. Loopers simply lay their eggs and move on, leaving the young to fend for themselves.

It's been an exclusive on the Fuhara blog [link] for about a week, and now that I'm leaving my computer for a while, now is a good a time as any to stick it up on DA.
