Mars' Red Fossils

Description

What if we did find direct evidence of past life on Mars? Would that mean life still exists there today? Would we then be obliged to leave Mars alone, to avoid destroying another ecosystem? How stringent would the rules be on colonizing this, or any other planet? Could a human being ever be allowed to directly touch Martian soil?

While the Red Fossils did raise awareness on Mankind’s heavyfooted exploration of the solar system, they were nothing compared to what happened after the Europa Drilling Disaster that followed 50 years later.

I decided to colour in my last inktober sketch. I quite like the simplicity of the red/white, and the hard shadows look nice, I think. If I could change anything, I’d make the fossil less snakey, and a bit more indistinguishable.

I'm sure that the Moon and Mars will be the next "manifest destiny" for mankind.  No matter what, if anything, there is in the way, humans will go on conquering and aren't satisfied until everything is theirs.  That's the nature of greed.

I'm adamant about my stance concerning this: the best thing that could happen is if humans were to hyper-evolve or change their mentalities so that such behaviors are no longer possible to have. Otherwise, the second most-sure way of preventing such questions... is to make it impossible to breach this ethical line, i.e. actively prevent the colonization of extraterrestrial bodies.
